Sounds of HUB | HUB x Rachel Comey
Posted on February 21 2016
In a way, Rachel Comey is her own muse. When asked about the idea for her cult denim style, the legion pant she told Vogue, "When I grew up in the 70's it was a kind of a common thing in my neighborhood...your mom would buy you school jeans and hem them up 6 inches because you were too small, and then you would grow and eventually would let the hem out". Her showroom is like walking in to the cover of Carole King's cover for Tapestry; giant windows, hardwood floors, eclectic books and vintage inspired collection of clothing and shoes. Since seeing the Spring 2016 collection its been hard to not think of the 70's singer-songwriters who like the designer, used their own lives as inspiration. Its easy to imagine a Carly Simon or Joni Mitchell clad in Comey. Even more likely is to catch one of their progeny, Fiona Apple, Eleanor Friedberger, St. Vincent adhering to Comey's artful aesthetic.
