Who Should Be Cast in Patti Smith's 'Just Kids' TV Series?

If you haven't read Patti Smith's 2010 memoir Just Kids your level of #fomo should spike to an all-time high. It chronicles Smith's and Robert Mapplethorpe's childhood, their arrivals to a radicalized 70's New York, their love affair, friendship and parallel pursuit of an artful existence. Smith became the mother of the New York City punk rock movement with her poetic approach to the medium and Robert Mapplethorpe a photographic provocateur art legend.
Last week it was announced that the rock legend was partnering with Showtime to produce a limited run series adaptation of the iconic and award winning book. Since its release there have been countless hints at a possible movie version with actors like Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's names being thrown in for contention by Smith herself.
Here, a few of our suggestions:
Model and muse Jamie Bochert has appeared in countless magazine editorials for Vogue, W and the like, ads for Givenchy, Lanvin and Marc Jacobs. She's a dead ringer for Patti Smith and has even sang back up vocals for her. Eleanor Friedberger is musically inclined and entering the acting world, starring opposite fellow cool girl Chloe Sevigney in an upcoming film.
French Actor and model Gaspard Ulliel played legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent in a 2014 biopic and began his career in made-for-TV movies. Evan Peters was made famous for his involvement in the TV series American Horror Story. His nonchalance and affinity for darker subjects is the perfect echo for Mapplethorpe and the subject of his own photography. Despite his recent roles in action films like X-Men, Nicholas Hoult started in British television. A muse of Tom Ford's Hoult also starred in the 60's set A Single Man.
If you ask Patti Smith, she recently said:
“Robert and I were very young. We were 20. We were unknowns, and I think it should be unknowns in the film, and young.”
