What’s the first thing you thought of this morning?

The Matterhorn rollercoaster at Disneyland. I'm not a Disney freak - I haven't been there in 16 years! But I dreamt I was on the ride and was going over that first edge and I could feel the butterflies as I woke up. I think it's time to visit!

What was the best gift you've ever received?

My boyfriend bought me the score to the Alfred Hitchcock film 'Vertigo' on vinyl for our first Christmas together. I'm a huge fan of Hitchcock and even took a class on him in college, so I was so excited and touched by such a thoughtful gift.

What the best thing you've ever bought for yourself?

I adopted my best 4-legged friend Pedro from AAWL on my birthday in 2005, and I always say he is the best gift I've ever given myself.

What's your best beauty tip?

Many women swipe lipstick on the back of their hand to see how the color looks on them and then marvel how it looks so different when they try it on. I test colors out on my fingertips instead - the blood vessels mimic the color of your lips, so when you swipe the color on your fingertip you get a better idea of how the color will look when you wear it.

Something every girl should have in her beauty bag?

An eyelash curler - it helps frame the eye and makes it appear bigger. I never skip this step with my own makeup and never skip it when a client is in my chair. I love the Japonesque compact curler and the Utowa lash curler - it's made by Mr. Shu Uemura's son!

What's the song you can't stop listening to right now?

"Dreams (Take 2)" by Fleetwood Mac from the Rumours Deluxe album.

Your favorite place on Earth?

Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. The Pacific Ocean, the sand, the Cyprus trees on the beach - they remind me of my childhood and complete serenity.

What annoys you?

Spending time with someone who is constantly on their phone. At dinner, or when having a conversation with someone it is very distracting when they are tuned in to their phone and social media. Who wants to compete for someone's attention? Put the phone down, make eye contact and be present.

If you could do anyone’s makeup who would you want to do?

Debby Harry in the 1970's.

If you weren't doing what you're doing now, what would you be doing?

I'd probably be teaching. I studied Spanish and was inspired by amazing teachers and professors - so I would want to help push others to also fall in love with learning this beautiful language.

Why Phoenix?

After moving downtown over 10 years ago, I felt at home in Phoenix. I'm a warm weather gal, and I love our sunshine, our mountains, how our seasons differ from other spots. There's so much beauty in our city and surrounding it - Arizona is a magical place! The golden hour in spring, when the sun sets later and the orange blossoms are blooming - it doesn't get better than that!

What's your favorite book?

Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris. I can read the stories over and over and still laugh out loud like it was the first time reading them.

What's your vice?

Red Lipstick - I own more of it than any other color and rarely meet one I don't love. Mysterious Red from NARS is my obsession!

What's your spot?

AZ88

Favorite Lyric?

"The only girl I've ever loved was born with roses in her eyes." by Neutral Milk Hotel - 'Holland, 1945' on In the Aeroplane over the Sea.

Beatles or Stones?

The Beach Boys!

Dream festival line-up headliners?

Queen, David Bowie, The Smiths, Prince, Bjork, Pulp.

Hidden Talent?

I'm a pretty good whistler. You want me on your team when it comes to 'Name that tune'.

Favorite Word?

Fuck.

You hate when people wear __________________.

Sunglasses on the back of their head - it's the worst!

Worst beauty trend you ever followed?

Beginning my makeup career in 2000, I experienced quite a few bad beauty trends. There was no such thing as skin that was too matte, too much color or too much glitter. Brows were thin, lipliner was dark and lipstick was frosted. Deep burgundy lip pencil outlining champagne frosted lipstick is the stuff nightmares are made of! Thank goodness that, for the most part, beauty is more sophisticated now.

_____________ is the new black.

Color! After 13 years of wearing only black to work every day, I'm happy that my wardrobe could come to life!

Dream vacation -

Spending the summer in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris and Cinque Terre.
